Let it snow!

It was too late for a truly white Christmas, but it's finally snowed something that makes me feel somewhat less afraid of global warming.  As in, I know it's still happening, but at least the seas will not rise in the unceasing, menacing waves of an apocalyptic nightmare in the next year.

So.  I made an advent activity calendar this year, and every morning this December, Marley opened an envelope and read the card inside to her little sister, announcing what holiday craft, errand, or tradition we'd try to make a part of our day.  About two weeks before Christmas, it was "Make a Snowman."  With no actual snow in sight, the girls made do with markers and paper.

I love this.  Rudy's snowman is, let's face it, wearing an unbelievable headpiece.  She's a happy purple snow lady, or basically, Erykah Badu after a particularly satisfying rendition of "Tyrone."

Marley drew a careful representation of our entire snow family, including frisky Oliver and stately Mr. Peterson.  Rudy's wearing the kitty hat and scarf she got when Marley tired of them both, and Marley's wearing her new signature gray beanie with its knitted flower askew.  I'm wearing the winter hat I planned on giving Jeff if I drew his name in our Secret Santa exchange but then kept for myself because I drew Heather's name.  It's hilarious because it says "HAT." I wore it to Target today with a red hooded sweatshirt and some warm-up pants, and I might as well have been wearing the sweatsuit Liz recently attached to one of her Pinterest boards.  I'm pretty sure Todd's wearing a Red Sox hat, and I'm also fairly confident that this family portrait is better than any other we've got from 2012.
