"Somebody's happy to be out of the house!"

There is a fine line between a Fun Drunk and an Obnoxious Drunk, and I believe that I walked that line last night. On the fun side, just barely, depending on who you ask. According to Todd, I was Spirited and Sassy. Thank you, Todd.

We left Bean and Toot with my sister Danielle in the morning and watched our friends Abe and Kaitlin get married in the afternoon. Todd was a groomsman, the only one of five who wasn't Abe's brother. Abe is a fantastic friend. We can always count on him to be not only available, but also enthusiastic, when Todd is about to start a home improvement project: he practically scraped off all the wallpaper and painted just about all the rooms in our home when we moved here two years ago. He's generous and sweet, and we're happy he's found a lady who willingly participated in a choreographed first dance with him, a medley encompassing both of their musical tastes: Abe's theater background in Les Miz's "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and Kaitlin's, let's face it, youth in N'Sync's "Bye Bye Bye." (Hol-ler!)

The evening started out well: phyllo-wrapped lobster and an open bar under a enormous, candlelit tent on the docks. Todd and I posed for what may very well become our go-to portrait for the next five or so years. It's been a while since we looked into a camera without one of our offspring in our laps or clutching our appendages. Above, my hair has yet to fully succumb to the August seaside humidity and my wine is frosty. I am about to sip elegantly.

Here I am approximately three hours later, dancing maniacally with the groom. I was that girl, jogging nonchalantly over to the DJ to request Usher: "Yeah!" And I quickly got carried away, going through the list and shouting things like, "'Crazy in Love'! That's good! People will dance to that! Oh! Play Shakira!" (This will surprise no one who knew me in college, when I often asserted that I knew how to fill the dance floor better than any of the DJs at house parties. I remember fighting with one. Vaguely.) Anyhow, I just about lost my shiznit when "Regulate" came on, although it was mixed into something else way too soon. Abe told Todd I seemed pretty happy to be out of the house. When we spoke to him tonight, he told me that I brought a lot of energy to the dance floor. Thank you, Abe. Congratulations.
