Big-Girl Bed!

Rudy has a thing for white dress-up gloves. She calls them "Baby Gloves" and has one of her handlers pull them on her fingers as far as they can go, and then she tenderly holds one of her baby dolls with them on, the tips of the gloves hanging at least an inch off her tiny fingers. The other night, Marley and Rudy both received a pair of dress-up gloves as Christmas gifts from Liz's mom, who must get a kick out of buying things for silly little girls. I made the mistake of letting Bean and Toot open their presents just before bed without looking in the gift bags first to see what they were. And then Rudy insisted on wearing them right away, shrieking in dismay whenever they needed adjusting. She eventually fell asleep with them on, like a little lady after a particularly draining tea party. In her crib.

But as of yesterday, that crib, with the rails that she'd been getting stuck in and banging up against all night, is in pieces in our basement. Yesterday, after several non-bed-related meltdowns and calming down only after I put Rudolph's and Hermey's "We're A Couple Of Misfits" on repeat, Rudy had her first nap in a big-girl bed. Thanks, in very large part, to (Shout Out!) Heather's generous donation of her Jordan's Furniture Monster Hit Payback.

I wondered how her Lambie positioning might change when she had the option of an actual pillow. In her crib, Rudy always slept with Lambie under her gargantuan noggin for support and reassurance. But yesterday, she curled up like a little kid, squeezing Lambie the way Beanie clutches Ghostie and Blankie at night. Toot is just a speck on that twin bed, but it was time. And now Todd and I really feel like we have two kids. Two little girls, who are sure to have many zany adventures in that room after we tuck them in and close the door, and before Marley heads downstairs at dawn to wake us up.

When Rudy was crying before her nap yesterday, she kept wailing for "Mah-yee!" It was "I see Mah-yee!" and "I wan Mah-yee!" and we eventually called Marley to say hello, since she was busy having a playdate at Emma's. Last night, I made sure that Marley and Rudy got tucked in at the same time, so that Toot would know her companion is still around in the same spot even though the bedroom looks a little different. And those two conked out pretty quickly. And then they amused themselves upstairs until after 7:30 this morning, which was delightful.

Goodnight, Moon. Goodnight, Bean. Goodnight, Tiny Toot.
