Bean and Toot in the Morning!
Last week, I met Todd at the high school with Marley and Rudy so that they could join hundreds of teenagers in watching a performance by Emmanuel Jal, a former Sudanese child solider and current activist and rap artist. He was fantastic, and I have had "We Want Peace" stuck in my head on and off ever since. But what really impressed Marley and especially Rudy, was running into our pal Josh, an assistant principal, who is proud to know he was even more exciting than an international recording artist. And since we know people (like Josh, and, of course, Todd) in that building, we got into the auditorium through the tv studio, and we exited that way, too.
And here's what. After watching dozens of students climb on stage to dance with Emmanuel, and following behind a suddenly mesmerized Rudy who was making her way onto the stage in a trance, we left, and passed by a pretty typical set for a community access chat show. Todd and I wasted no time. "Hey! Bean! Toot! Hop in those chairs!" And I like to think that what followed will later be referred to as the audition tape.
