Take a Hike.

When the twenty-four hour news cycle was consumed with Boston's order to Shelter-in-Place, and I had a hard time watching anything other than the search for Suspect #2 in the Marathon Bombings, Todd pulled me out of the bedroom where I had barricaded myself in front of the small television, and he brought me, with our girls, to some trails in Central Massachusetts.  We were purposely disconnected, and except for my sporadic looks at websites and Twitter on my phone, we chose not to know what was happening every single minute of the manhunt.

Todd, of course, found at least one opportunity to educate our children on natural science.  Here he is pontificating beside Wachusett Meadow's Glacial Boulder.  Marley is attentive, but distracted by Rudy's obvious pride over scaling that enormous rock.

Hikes with our kids are really more like leisurely strolls.  But I like to believe that eventually, we'll be on to steeper inclines and vaster vistas.  And my two pipsqueaks will barrel on ahead on their strong legs, and hikes will be something they remember fondly and want to continue doing, on their own and with their old, but let's hope still spry and cool, parents.
