"We've got to patch it up, baby"*
So, this is happening. Rudy is patching her right eye for two hours a day to try and strengthen the vision in her left eye, which is turning in even though her lens over that eye is the correct prescription. It's a very subtle turning, but Todd and I still notice it, because we are The Glasses Family, and therefore experts. Anyhow, when her left eye turns in, it's unable to work with her right eye correctly, and to make things easier, her brain ignores the left eye, which weakens its vision even more. So now we're are now expanding Toot's diagnoses to include amblyopia as well as esotropia. To fix it, we are first of all patching, and second of all scheduled for surgery later this summer.
The good news is, Todd and I trust Rudy's original pediatric ophthalmologist and her new pediatric ophthalmologist/surgeon, who are both kind and knowledgable. And her surgeon's technician was especially awesome, because while testing Rudy and gathering measurements, she kept asking Rudy about Hat Lamb in a happy, boisterous way, and I feel like Rudy is a happy, boisterous lady herself. The even better news is, kids' patches come in all sorts of delightful colors and patterns, and you know we ordered the ones with glittery blue fishes because of Twist Hounce (recently discovered, again, this time under Marley's bed, huddled against the wall).
*Thank you, Elvis Presley.
