It's too much!
I thought, while the girls were out of school over April vacation, that we would have several lazy afternoons during which I would write several lengthy posts. I thought I would finally have the time to give the milestones that have happened over the past few weeks the consideration they deserve.
Instead, the weather was beyond amazing and we were outside as often as possible. There were marathoners to cheer on and playdates to host and lacrosse practices and games to coach. Also, there were cocktails to sip from the side or back patio. My new favorite is gin and St. Germaine liqueur with ruby red grapefruit juice and a splash of ginger ale, or tonic water, or whatever. So basically, yes: gin and juice. And so, here we go:
Event #1: Springtime. Last year, it was so cold and gloomy and rainy all spring. I remember bundling up through most of lacrosse season, and now, halfway through, I've been in shorts more often than not. Marley and Rudy are spending free mornings and afternoons in their playground, and I am, as Sheryl Crow says, soaking up the sun. And attempting to lighten up.
Event #2: Marley and Todd went to the Father Daughter Dance, again. She wore the same dress as last year, and we went through the same full hair and make-up situation. There was lots of talk about Katy Perry leading up to the dance, and lots of requests for her hits afterwards. Settle down, Marley. I don't even like the word tween. I'm not ready for all that carrying on*.
*I love it when Howard Stern grumbles about people carrying on, and I am making a concerted effort to use that phrase more often. Something for you to look forward to, I know.
Event #3: The entire family went on a leisurely hike through some trails a few towns over for some geocaching. We found tiny treasures, we witnessed (and threw, depending) some tiny tantrums, and we happened upon a pile of sticks that Marley was happy to pose in, most likely pretending to be a tiny, fancy, fairy of the forest.
Event #4: Rudy had a tooth pulled. For crying out loud. The same one Marley had pulled when she was Rudy's age. Both girls chipped their front left tooth around age two: Marley, while overtired and racing through Home Depot, and Rudy, while stumbling in the playroom on just another day at home. Both teeth turned gray over time, and Marley's became visibly infected a year later. I learned Rudy's was abscessed (also about a year later) after an x-ray at a recent check-up. And so now, Marley's rascal sidekick is that much more rascally.
